Avengers: Endgame Writers Considered Killing Hawkeye Over Black Widow

Avengers: Endgame might still be showing in theaters but at this point, most people have seen it already and cried their hearts out. The movie had a number of scenes that made fans emotional, the most shocking one being Black Widow's death. Most of us pegged her as a survivor since she would be getting a solo movie but that wasn't the case at all, with her solo film clearly being a prequel now.

However, the writers did discuss having Hawkeye/Ronin die instead of his best friend. Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely confirmed this in an interview with The New York Times, claiming that their visual effects producer even read an outline where Clint took the fall. That soon changed since many felt that her death would have been more fitting, though it was much more tragic as well.

McFeely: "There was [a possible outcome where Hawkeye died], for sure. Jen Underdahl, our visual effects producer, read an outline or draft where Hawkeye goes over. And she goes, "Don't you take this away from her." I actually get emotional thinking about it."
Markus: "And it was true, it was him taking the hit for her. It was melodramatic to have him die and not get his family back. And it is only right and proper that she's done."

While we will be getting more of Natasha Romanov and her super-spy days, it's a shame that we'll never see her with The Avengers again. Granted, she isn't the only dead Avenger but let's not discuss that.

At least we're getting a new Hawkeye series from Disney+ right?
