Avengers: Endgame Director Opens Up About the MCU's New Direction

The current state of the MCU has been divisive amongst fans. Some fans have been appreciative of the new direction where the franchise is going in the current Multiverse Saga while there are some who have not been fond of the creative choices and swings that they're taking.

It is hard to tell right now whether the franchise will be able to return to the glory of Avengers: Endgame, which was arguably its peak in terms of box office and audience reception. However, based on what we're seeing at the moment, that seems to be unlikely anytime soon.

In an interview with RadioTimes, Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo discussed his thoughts about the current state of the MCU where he showed his support for Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

"There’s nobody better at telling stories than Kevin Feige right now. If you’re going to bet on anybody, you bet on him," he said.

Russo went on to praise the new direction that the MCU is heading and asked fans to be patient as he stressed the importance of taking a different path instead of repeating the same formula all over again.

"I think that the type of story that unfolded in the phases that we worked on [was] a very specific kind of story that wrapped itself up in those phases and now it’s time for a new story, and I think that’s the direction that Marvel’s headed in," the director added.

"They’re telling you a very different story, a very new story and I think the audience just needs to be patient with the redirection because you can’t keep telling the same story over and over or you lose the audience."

He continued, "I think they’re taking some very big swings and they’re playing around with the tone and they’re championing diversity as much as anyone in the storytelling space right now and all of these things are huge wins for large-scale storytelling."

For the past several weeks, there have been reports that Marvel Studios has been reevaluating their plans regarding the future of the franchise as they're assessing the feedback that they received from the Phase Four projects. For now, let's just give them the benefit of the doubt and let's wait and see how this will all unfold.
