Avengers 4 Fan Theory Claims That Doctor Strange Cursed the Time Stone

Avengers 4 is ripe for fan theories, so it's easy to see why so many have popped up since the end of Avengers: Infinity War. Time travel has been a popular theory, which was also teased in the post-credits scene of Ant-Man and The Wasp, but another one has taken an interest. One new fan theory has suggested that Doctor Strange cursed the Time Stone, and now fans can't stop thinking about it.

Started on Reddit, the theory states that Strange put a hex on the Time Stone that could end up sabotaging Thanos' plans with the Infinity Gauntlet. One reason why this theory has gained so much steam is the exchange Strange has with Ebony Maw in Infinity War. For those that need a refresher, Maw tries to take the Time Stone but his hand gets horribly burned after his attempt. Strange claims that it's an old, but powerful spell and "You'll find removing a dead man's spell troublesome."

The theory also claims that the curse shows itself when Thanos put the stone on the Infinity Gauntlet. Unlike the other stones, which bask Thanos in light, the Time Stone makes green runes appear around the Gauntlet. Plus, we see Thanos' arm horribly burnt after he uses it, which might have been a side effect that Strange wanted.

It's clear that Stephen knew what he was doing when he decided to give the Time Stone to the Mad Titan. Prior to that, Strange actually tells Iron Man that he would be willing to sacrifice other people to keep the stone safe. Him changing his mind means that Tony plays a big part in helping the universe after what Thanos does.

Avengers 4 comes out on May 3, 2019. Only Doctor Strange (and The Russo Bros) know if he will be coming back.
