Tina Fey is delivering a new twist to the cult classic, Mean Girls, this January 2024. This includes a new batch of actors who will breathe new life into Cady Heron and 'The Plastics'. One of them is Avantika Vandanapu. So, who is she playing in Mean Girls?
Meet Avantika Vandanapu Before Mean Girls
Avantika Vandanapu is an American actress who has starred in several Indian films and commercials, as well as being the lead star in a 2021 flick, Spin, alongside Percy Jackson and the Olympians star Aryan Simhadri.
Before leading Spin, the 18-year-old actress played the role of Monyca in the Disney+ Diary of a Future President, a series where another Percy Jackson star was also first featured, Charlie Bushnell.
Vandanapu also got the chance to take her roles in big productions such as Netflix's Moxie and Senior Year, where Rebel Wilson played the role of a 17-year-old cheerleader who woke up from a 20-year coma.
It is worth mentioning that she also gained experience in voice acting by playing Sareena Tapoor in Mickey Mouse Mixed-Up Adventures and Kamala from Mira, Royal Detective.

Avantika Vandanapu is 2024's Karen Smith
Avantika Vandanapu will be playing Karen Smith, a role previously played by Les Miserables and Mamma Mia star Amanda Seyfried.
Those in the know are already well aware how Karen Smith is one of the iconic puzzle pieces that make up the whole picture of the original 2004 flick.
The difference is 2024 Karen is seemingly not as clueless and oblivious to the real world but rather keeps up with the group by making her interpretations of fashion emergencies such as calling Regina's pimple a 'face breast.'
The official synopsis for the 2024 Mean Girls iteration reads:
From the comedic mind of Tina Fey comes a new twist on the modern classic, MEAN GIRLS. New student Cady Heron (Angourie Rice) is welcomed into the top of the social food chain by the elite group of popular girls called 'The Plastic,' ruled by the conniving queen bee Regina George (Reneé Rapp) and her minions Gretchen (Bebe Wood) and Karen (Avantika).
However, when Cady makes the major misstep of falling for Regina's ex-boyfriend Aaron Samuels (Christopher Briney), she finds herself prey in Regina's crosshairs. As Cady sets to take down the group's apex predator with the help of her outcast friends Janis (Auli’i Cravalho) and Damian (Jaquel Spivey), she must learn how to stay true to herself while navigating the most cutthroat jungle of all: high school.
