Following its initial reveal earlier this year, the Kaina of the Great Snow Sea anime series has announced its release date and cast, which is headlined by an Attack on Titan star.
The announcement was made via the show’s official website. There, new info on the series was revealed alongside the release of a new trailer.
Playing the protagonist Kaina is Yoshimasa Hosoya, a veteran voice actor. Hosoya is most known for his role in Attack on Titan as Reiner Braun, a character that he has voiced since the first season back in 2013.
Aside from Reiner, Hosoya has also voiced a wide range of characters, including Fumikage Tokoyami in My Hero Academia, Asahi Azumane in Haikyuu, and Sosuke Yamazaki in Free.
Joining Hosoya in the cast are other popular voice actors, including Rie Takahashi (Emilia in Re:Zero), Ayumu Murase (Shoyou Hinata in Haikyuu), Maaya Sakamoto (Shinobu Oshino in the Monogatari series), and Sugita Tomokazu (Gintoki in Gintama).
The anime is directed by Hiroaki Ando (Listeners), with series composition by Sadayuki Murai (Natsume Yujin-cho). Joining them are scriptwriters Sadayuki Murai and Tetsuya Yamada, along with composers Hiroyuki Sawano, Kohta Yamamoto, and Misaki Umase.
Kaina of the Great Snow Sea Release Date & Story
Kaina of the Great Snow Sea is an original anime by Polygon Pictures. Its story is set in a world blanketed by a sea of snow where people survive under the roots and atop enormous trees.
The series follows Kaina and Liliha, two people from different parts of the world who must go on a journey to save it.
While it’s an original anime, the series received a manga series adaptation which started serialization in Monthly Shonen Sirius on February 26, 2022.
Kaina of the Great Snow Sea is set to release in January 2023 on +Ultra in Japan. Outside Asia, the series will be released on Crunchyroll.
Ahead of the series’ release, the first four episodes of the anime will premiere this August at the Crunchyroll Expo.
