Attack on Titan’s creator is coming to the US next week. Ahead of his arrival, Hajime Isayama shared a special message to Attack on Titan fans before his Anime NYC appearance.

In the message, Isayama acknowledged the series’ controversial ending, though he also asked fans to be kind. This is important considering the fans' strong opinions online regarding the series’ end.

Attack on Titan's Controversial Manga Ending

Attack on Titan is a manga series by Hajime Isayama that was serialized in Bessatsu Shonen Magazine from September 2009 to April 2021.

It is one of the best-selling manga of all time with over 110 million copies in circulation as of September 2022.

Aside from the manga being a big hit, the franchise is also incredibly popular worldwide thanks in large part to the anime series.

The anime adaptation began with the first season which aired in 2013. Since then, the series had multiple seasons which were released over the last couple of years.

The anime is now on its multi-part final season and is set to conclude in 2023.

Meanwhile, the manga already ended in April 2021, though its ending proved to be quite controversial.

Without going into spoiler territory, many fans were unhappy with the ending as they called it unsatisfying.

On the flip side, some fans continue to defend the ending, with them calling it a worthy ending to a beloved series.

Despite this, the debate continues to rage on regarding the series’ conclusion.

Hajime Isayama's Anime NYC Message

Ahead of Anime NYC, Kodansha confirmed that the series’ creator, Hajime Isayama, will make an appearance, complete with a panel event.

Given the controversy regarding the ending, Isayama addressed the series’ conclusion in a message ahead of Anime NYC which was shared on the Kodansha US website.

Part of the message reads:

I am aware that the ending of Attack on Titan was quite controversial. I am open to receiving people’s honest opinions. However, I would appreciate it if you’d be kind to me.
I am both hopeful and anxious about coming to Anime NYC, but I am certainly looking forward to it.

As you can see, Isayama does not shy away from the controversial nature of the ending, and he is even open to opinions.

Though at the very least, he hopes that fans will be kind and that they hopefully refrain from hurtful comments.

Anime NYC is happening in New York City from November 18-20, 2022 at the Javits Convention Center.

Meanwhile, Attack on Titan The Final Season Part 3 is set to release sometime in 2023, though there’s no official release date yet.
