Ascendance of a Bookworm finally has a new anime project in the works, but there is an unexpected development. Wit Studio announced that it is taking over the Ascendance of a Bookworm anime's production.
The studio announced that it is working on the series’ next anime installment via its official X (formerly Twitter) account. There, it was also confirmed that the upcoming anime will cover Part 3 of the light novel series.
This is an interesting decision from Wit Studio. After all, this is the first time the studio will take over an ongoing anime as Wit is infamous for doing the exact opposite.
Wit Studio Is Taking Over an Ongoing Anime for the First Time
Wit Studio is one of the most popular anime studios right now, and it is best known currently for being the co-animator of Spy x Family alongside the equally renowned CloverWorks.
Even with Spy x Family continuing to get new projects, the studio announced more new upcoming titles. To start, there’s the next entry in its original Great Pretender anime series.
Just recently, Wit Studio also revealed a new trailer for its Suicide Squad Isekai anime that’s being made in partnership with Warner Bros. Japan and DC.
Aside from working on a unique array of anime, Wit Studio has also become infamous for starting anime projects that are continued in the next season by other studios.
This has happened to Wit multiple times already. For instance, Attack on Titan was moved from Wit to MAPPA for its final season. The same studio shift also happened to Vinland Saga.
There’s also The Ancient Magus’ Bride, which was shifted to Studio Kafka for its second season. Finally, there’s Hozuki's Coolheadedness, which saw Studio Deen take over for Season 2.

Ascendance of a Bookworm Anime: More Details From Wit Studio Coming Soon
Wit is now no longer on the receiving end of a studio change. That’s because Wit is taking over the production of Ascendance of a Bookworm following three seasons by Ajia-do Animation Works (Revenger, Kemono Jihen).
Wit revealed that it is working on the series’ next anime installment which will adapt the story of the light novel series’ Part 3: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke.
For reference, the first three seasons covered Parts 1 and 2 of the light novels.
Wit Studio did not explicitly confirm that the new Ascendance of a Bookworm anime project is a proper fourth season. Based on the series’ track record though, it’s likely that this will be a new TV anime season.
There’s no word yet on a release date for Wit’s new anime. In the meantime, fans can expect the release of the light novel series’ Part 5 on December 9 in Japan.
