The success of the MOBA game, League of Legends, was so unprecedented that it spawned its very own Netflix animated adaptation, Arcane.

The series was a sure-fire hit, entering the streaming service's Top 10 and ultimately earning a Season 2 renewal. Now, before that releases, here's a little recap of Arcane Season 1 ending explained and how this would set up the story for Arcane Season 2.

Vi and Jinx Split Ways

Throughout the entire series, we've been following the story of two sisters, Vi and Jinx.

Their separation forced them to grow in their own separate ways, with Vi nearly rotting in prison after being blamed for the explosion they made when they were kids, and Jinx, taken in by Silco as a weapon for Zaun.

Now that Jinx has ultimately decided to become Jinx and thrash out her original identity as Powder, Vi and Caitlyn were left helplessly underground as her blue-haired sister fired right at the City Council's building to wreak havoc once more.

Mel Medarda's Secret Weapon

Mel is an influential member of the Council. Since her dedication to supporting Jayce and his inventions starting with the Hexcore and Hextech, she has also taught him the politics - the ins and outs - of the Council and society as a whole.

Even in the finale episode of Arcane Season 1, Mel has sided with Jayce over returning to her mother's side to fight her war.

Now, in the final shots of the last episode, Mel was the last member of the Council to have had the spotlight since Jinx shot right at their building. What could this mean?

There had been rumors implying she could finally unravel her powers, the same ability she was known to use in the in-game League of Legends. However, for now, that remains to be seen.

The War Between Zaun and Piltover

The war of freedom is never a clean slate. It merely starts even more blood and war. If anything, Silco's last words were to grant Zaun's independence from Piltover and the Council.

This was all in vain when Silco kept trying to protect Jinx from getting taken into prison, especially now that she had accidentally killed him.

We also saw a glimpse of Sevika trying to light her own cigarette after Vi had pulled her artificial arm off, a symbol indicating how Zaun would eventually fall apart without their leader.

While Jayce was already persuading the Council (and Mel herself) to take his side, Jinx had already fired up the Hextech weapon and could cause even more chaos between the two cities.

Viktor Could Become the Next Major Villain

The once inseparable inventor duo Jayce and Viktor had a dream to build the world a better place, but more specifically, Piltover.

However, the more Arcane Season 1 progressed, the more the Hextech inventions were used for much worse reasons than improving the city's functioning society.

What makes Viktor the next potential major villain of the series could stem from when the Hexcore corrupted his mind. It granted him the ability to use his legs again, even in just a short time, he felt bliss.

Unfortunately, as much as Viktor knows that he can refuse temptation, it would be up to Jayce's final decision: whether or not he decides to destroy the Hexcore.

Jayce looked pretty unwelcoming to the idea, considering that it's how he earned his high position at the Council and in Piltover.

And just like how Viktor was left to fend for himself, Jayce could do the same thing without realizing this second season.

Heimerdinger and Ekko's Plan

Heimerdinger and Ekko were united in the series at last. Considering that Ekko is a huge prospect as a young inventor, meeting Heimerdinger, a prominent Piltover figure, would do wonders for his goals in rebuilding Zaun into the place he aims it to be.

These two scientists will be coming together to work for a common cause, with Ekko explaining how they built the undercity around one tree, and of course, a little easter egg teasing his possible second-season development.

In League of Legends, Ekko is the boy who can travel through time through his time-warping technology.

It is possible that now he's working with one of the greatest scientists from the city above, he could reach his full potential and take center stage in Season 2.

Vander Might Return

Last but not the least, in the corner of Singed's lab hangs a dark mysterious figure, akin to that of Vander's corpse when he fell to his death as early as Act 1.

Many League of Legends fans had been speculating that Vander would make his return to the series, but not in the way you think.

See, in the game, there's a werewolf called Warwick, a monster who haunts the alleys of Zaun. He was an experimented specimen who was canonically transformed by Singed's torturous experiments.

Given that Warwick was originally human and from Zaun, Vander's description practically fits the bill.

Arcane Season 2 has yet to announce its official release date on Netflix, but it has been teased to come out on the streamer around late 2024. For more updates on the series, you can read all the updates about it here.
