Johnny Depp's defamation trial against Amber Heard is revealing more about the former couple. The recent testimony of American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)'s general counsel and chief operating officer Terence Dougherty has revealed that the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom star has not yet paid the remainder of her $3.5 million pledge to the organization.
Dougherty testified that Heard has yet to pay approximately $2.2 million to ACLU (via TheWrap). Back in 2016, Heard pledged to donate her $7 million divorce settlement to charity, stating that half would go to the ACLU and the other half to a children's hospital in Los Angeles. The organization was set to receive the money in installments over 10 years. However, Dougherty revealed to the court that "We didn't receive any amounts in 2019 and on."
Additionally, Dougherty revealed that most of the $1.2 million that the ACLU has received so far didn't come from Heard herself. Although she directly paid $350,000 with an additional $350,000 being donated anonymously, her ex-boyfriend Elon Musk donated $500,000 on her behalf. It was also confirmed that Johnny Depp himself has paid $100,000 to the organization.
The defamation trial against Amber Heard has also affected the actress' upcoming project. It was previously reported that Heard's screentime in Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom has been significantly reduced to only 10 minutes. However, the details have not yet been confirmed so it's best to take this with a grain of salt.
Johnny Depp filed the defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard after the latter's op-ed painted the actor as an "abuser." Heard has denied the accusations and counter-sued Depp for $100 million in defamation. She is set to testify later in the trial.
Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom has been delayed from a December 2022 release and will premiere on March 17, 2023.
