Ant-Man: Quantumania Producer Clarifies Confusion on Kang’s Death

As MCU Phase 5 opener, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania introduced Marvel’s new big bad Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror. The majority of the fans have agreed that the film’s highlight is the convincing performance of Majors as the villain. Kang is expected to play a more significant role in the franchise. However, at the end of Ant-Man 3, Kang was allegedly murdered and hundreds of his versions appeared in the post-credits sequence, which confused some of the fans. To ease the wonder, the threequel’s creator recently explained how other Variants were informed about the Conqueror's death.

Stephen Broussard, producer of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and vice president of production and development at Marvel Studios, recently spoke on the D23: Inside Disney podcast about the most recent MCU movie. Broussard was notably questioned regarding the death of Kang the Conqueror after the movie and how the Council of Kang Variants knew about it in the first post-credits sequence.

“That’s a very interesting question. I think, by the subtext of the film itself, that they have heightened technology, right? They’re all from a far-flung future and that’s part of what makes Kang so terrifying. So I think they kinda keep tabs on one another, which goes back to what He Who Remains told us in the final episode of Loki Season 1. There’s a rivalry between the Kangas. There’s a frenemies sense amongst them, that we’re starting to get a sense of.” he explained.

“And you see some of that in that little bit at the end of the film, where the two Kangs are carping at each other. And that’s one of the interesting dynamics in the comics is that they do form a council with a common purpose, but squabble in and amongst themselves,” added Broussard. “So, I think they have their ways to know what the other person is doing, and we may find ourselves caught in that squabble as it goes forward, as it was in the comics. And that’s one of the fun ideas to think about as we look ahead.”

In comic books, demise is not necessarily final. When you factor in Kang's skills and background, his status becomes a little murkier. He wasn't destroyed, and viewers couldn't see the vitality of his body. The Council of Kangs assumes that he is dead in the opening post-credits scene. But his fate is uncertain, much like Scott's inner monologue at the conclusion.

Loki season 2 is likely to feature more of him as confirmed by the second post-credits stinger from Quantumania. Kang and his variants are also expected to appear in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. His cameos are anticipated in Fantastic Four as well, given his connection to the team in the comics, and in Deadpool 3 as it's about characters crossing the Multiverse.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania is now showing in theaters.
