A TV anime adaptation of the Japanese light novel series New Life+: Young Again in Another World was slated to arrive this fall but because of the creator's bigoted tweets he previously made, the show has been canceled.

The creator of the light novel series writers under the pen name MINE. Soon after the anime was announced, Twitter users brought up tweets MINE made between 2012 and 2015 with derogatory and racist comments towards China and South Korea. Some of them also pointed out that the series features a protagonist who had killed 3,000 people with a katana during the Second Sino-Japanese War.

The anime's main voice actors —Toshiki Masuda, Megumi Nakajima, Kiyono Yasuno and Nanami Yamashita—all quit together.

IT Mediareports that MINE issued an apology on Twitter: "As for several tweets I previously made, they caused many people a great deal of discomfort, and I truly apologize for the improper language." MINE also said that he was leaving his Twitter account up for the time being so his apology could be heard. At a later time, he will delete his account.

MINE went on to say that he was talking to his publisher about revising the original light novel so the readers won't feel uncomfortable. "Once again, I am truly sorry for the unpleasant feelings as well as the trouble I have caused."

The damage has been done, however, and the light novel's publisher, Hobby Japan, already suspended shipments of the series. The anime was also cancelled with an announcement and apology on its official website.
