Angelina Jolie was reportedly supposed to be part of Spider-Man 4. According to a new report, she was set to play the villain in the ill-fated sequel.

Angelina Jolie Was Set To Appear In Spider-Man 4 With Tobey Maguire?

The Direct received early access to Sean O'Connell's new Spider-Man-centric book With Great Power. In the book, O'Connell uncovered some fascinating stories from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4, starring Tobey Maguire.

According to him, Vulture is the big bad and Jolie was brought on board. Vulture's death wasn't the end of the film because filmmakers were reportedly bringing up his daughter to take over his mantle.

Adrian Toomes' daughter will become the fearless Vultress — an original character not in the comics. The film was canceled in 2009, but Jolie's name was reportedly "attached to this pivotal role for a short amount of time" during Spider-Man 4's development.

Jolie would not just be putting on a supervillain suit because the proposed B-plot for the film also revealed that she would have also been "an accomplished executive representing a venture capital firm that was trying to buy the Daily Bugle."

As for Adrian Toomes, a.k.a. Vulture, O'Connell said Raimi aimed to modernize the character from how he was portrayed in the comics. It was reportedly evident in his costume, in particular, the feathers on his wings which were "designed to flip out like razor-sharp blades."

"He was essentially a guy that did as a lot of ugly stuff for the government, did a lot of ugly stuff as a private contractor… I thought a clever thing to do would be to say that part of the reason they called him The Vulture was because when he was done, he didn't leave anything but bones behind," storyboard artist Jeffrey Henderson said of Vulture.

Why Did Angelina Jolie Join MCU?

Brad Pitt's ex-wife joined Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with the Phase 4 film Eternals. In the movie, Jolie plays Thena, a member of the superhuman race who is known for her strength, speed, stamina, agility and reflexes.

According to Jolie, the diverse cast convinced her to join the Marvel family.

"[It was] the idea of this family and this way of showing superheroes," Jolie told E! News' Daily Pop.

"I think they still find it really funny because they know me and Mom's mom, and so maybe in some way it blew the universe, like, 'Marvel's so cool, but Mom? Mom's a superhero?'" she continued. "They're really supportive and I think they find it fun. It's like those great friends, they're here more in that loving and supportive way more than for themselves and excited. They back me up when I'm nervous and we kind of try to help each other out."

Jolie's character Thena was lucky because she wasn't kidnapped by a Celestial at the end of the movie, unlike half of her friends. Thus, some fans are convinced that she will return in a future project.
