Andy Serkis made his return to the Star Wars franchise last year when he showed up for a three-episode arc in the first season of Andor. This time around, he is playing a different character named Kino Loy, Cassian's fellow prisoner in Narkina-5.

The award-winning actor's guest appearance in the series was met with acclaim from both fans and the audience. It was also a great surprise since his appearance was never officially announced and the role was very different from the villainous Snoke in the sequel trilogy.

While the character's arc might already be done, there is a lot of hope that he will return to the series in some capacity. After all, they never showed his death which opens the door for his potential return.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Serkis was asked whether there were discussions for him to play Kino Loy again after his three-episode arc back when he joined the first season of Andor.

While he didn't give a definitive response, he implied that there is a way for him to return to the role given his ambiguous fate although there was no formal discussion yet regarding his potential return in the second season.

"Well, there weren't really many discussions about the afterlife of Kino. All that we do know is that he survives. I mean, we don't see him die. We see him left for a further life of the character. But prior to that, there were no discussions at all about [what] might happen afterwards," the actor said.

"I was just excited enough about the arc that I had to play, which was a really beautifully crafted illustration of a man who has a belief system that gets broken that then has nothing to believe in, that then gets kind of reignited by someone who inspires him to find himself again, and then self-sacrifices."

As Serkis pointed out, there is definitely room for him to return as Kino Loy whether it's in the second season or another project set around the same timeline that could give us the aftermath of the prison break at Narkina-5.

Given the positive reception that they received regarding the character, they might find it irresistible to bring him back even for a smaller capacity and finally address his fate which is hopefully a more optimistic one.

Nevertheless, it won't be surprising now if we'll see Serkis show up in the second season. If ever that happens, fans are definitely going to be happy and have the resolution that they've been clamoring for.

The first season of Andor is available to stream on Disney+.
