Andor Season 2 Receives Production Update Amidst the WGA Strike

The ongoing strike by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) is expected to cause a massive effect on Hollywood film and TV productions since writers were instructed to not write or rewrite the projects that they're currently involved on various levels of production.

There have been questions regarding how it will affect the production of the TV shows that are currently in the works. We know that shows such as Cobra Kai and Yellowjackets have closed their writer's room for the duration of the strike.

Meanwhile, it was reported that House of the Dragon and The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power remain in production without the showrunners on set as the scripts were already done before the strike with the latter reportedly only having 19 days left on their production schedule.

Now, we have an update regarding the WGA strike's effect on the production of the second season of Andor, which has been filming since November of last year and is expected to wrap around August.

According to Variety, the second season of Andor will still continue its production despite the ongoing WGA strike. However, showrunner Tony Gilroy is not present on the set and is no longer writing as the scripts were already locked months ago.

Gilroy is still working as a producer in a non-writing capacity such as getting involved in the casting and scoring.

This is certainly an interesting update for all the shows that are still in production and it is a tricky situation that they have to face since, in the case of Andor, Gilroy and his writing team are not allowed to do any rewrites or do any changes on the scripts that were locked before the strike.

It has always been a norm for any film and TV production to do rewrites or punch-ups on the set during filming or even post-production for ADR. Now, for Andor and other shows that are still filming, they can only rely on what was exactly written in the script.

For now, let's wait and see whether their plan will eventually change or they'll just simply figure out their way until the finish line without the usual rewriting process on the set.
