Despite the success of the first season of Avatar: The Last Airbender, which led to two new seasons, executive producer Albert Kim has left the production team to work on a new project at Disney+.

The first season of Avatar: The Last Airbender was a massive hit, garnering roughly 21 million viewers on its opening weekend alone. One of the people crucial to this success is the showrunner, Albert Kim, who was with the project from Day 1 more than two years ago. However, the executive will no longer be part of the production team for the next two seasons.

According to Deadline, Kim has officially left the series he has worked on with co-showrunner Christine Boylan since its inception. The report said Kim will work next on Percy Jackson and the Olympians at Disney+, which recently greenlit a second season of the fantasy series.

Boylan and season one director Jabbar Raisani will direct the next two seasons of Avatar: The Last Airbender, which will be shot back-to-back to accommodate the lead actors' growth spurt.

As for Kim, he’ll join Craig Silverstein, Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz on Disney+ as showrunners of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

When it was released, The Last Airbender was one of the biggest premieres on Netflix, going up to No. 1 in the streamer’s English language chart. It eventually secured spots in the Top 10 charts in 92 countries, surpassing even a fellow anime live-action adaptation, One Piece.
