Despite receiving a favorable reception from critics and fans, it was reported earlier that the premiere episode of Ahsoka delivered lower viewership than the other Star Wars live-action shows that debuted before.

Considering the hype and excitement surrounding the series from most fans prior to its premiere last week, it is certainly the kind of results that Disney and Lucasfilm were not hoping for as they want it to be the next big hit in the Star Wars franchise.

A lot of factors can be considered surrounding its lower ratings whether it's the series being a continuation of the fan-favorite animated series Rebels or its deeper mythology has turned off some of the casual viewers.

Nevertheless, there is still some hope that perhaps the numbers could go up in the subsequent episodes as more word-of-mouth is starting to spread regarding the well-received beginning of the series.

Despite the reports surrounding the premiere's disappointing viewership, Disney and Lucasfilm released a statement today regarding Ahsoka's viewership where they claimed that it was more successful as it drew 14 million views worldwide on its debut episode.

The studio proudly announced that the premiere episode was the most-watched title on Disney+ during the past week and its massive viewership made it the number one global show on the platform.

In the earlier report that cited the third-party metric Samba TV as the source, the premiere episode of Ahsoka only drew 1.2M U.S. households which is lower than the other Star Wars live-action shows and on par with Andor.

With word spreading around surrounding the show's disappointing premiere viewership, it looks like Disney wanted to change the narrative which is why they announced that its global ratings were more successful than just a U.S. household metric.

This public statement surrounding the show's premiere viewership is also more surprising considering that Disney+ rarely becomes transparent and announces the ratings of its shows unless it is "successful" like Ahsoka.

While we might never get the most accurate information surrounding the premiere viewership, in the end, the show's overall success will be determined in the coming weeks when the viewership will either go up or down or maintain similar numbers as its debut.

One thing that has become apparent is that the Star Wars franchise is experiencing fatigue amongst the general audience and it's interesting to see whether Ahsoka could turn things around in its eight-episode run.
