After-School Hanako-kun Spinoff Miniseries Coming This October

After-School Hanako-kun

After-School Hanako-kun

Hanako-kun has not gotten a new anime entry in over three years, but that’s all about to change as After-School Hanako-kun was announced recently, and this spinoff miniseries will be released in October.

What’s interesting about this new anime is that instead of being a follow-up to the Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun anime from 2020, this is a new spinoff that serves as the first in the show’s restart.

It’s all a bit vague right now, but back in December 2022, it was revealed that the Hanako-kun anime will get restarted in the future.

Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun Restart Explained

Hanako-kun is a unique supernatural comedy series that follows Nene Yashiro, a high school student who summons Hanako-san of the toilet, a figure in Japanese urban legend who is said to grant wishes.

However, Nene discovers that Hanako-san is actually a boy. Soon, Nene becomes spiritually bound to Hanako-kun and becomes his assistant in dealing with various supernatural forces.

Despite its popularity, the show did not get a second-season announcement in the two years following its first season. Instead, a restart of the anime was announced.

It’s still not clear what this restart means, but some believe it to be a reboot of the anime as a closer adaptation of the manga.

Meanwhile, others theorize that it is just a roundabout way of saying that Season 2 will be released soon. However, fans will need to wait a bit longer for the full details.

At least, it seems that the wait won’t be too long as the show’s restart is finally beginning with the newly announced spinoff.

After-School Hanako-kun Spinoff Announces October Release Date

After-School Hanako-kun is a new spinoff that features the return of the first season’s voice cast, including Megumi Ogata (Yuta in Jujutsu Kaisen 0) as Hanako-kun and Akari Kitou (Nezuko in Demon Slayer) as Nene.

To go along with the announcement, a short teaser was released along with a video message from Ogata, who shared what fans can expect.

This spinoff won’t be a traditional anime season though, as it will be composed of 10-minute episodes that will air over four weeks, making it closer to a show like Isekai Quartet.

The four-week broadcast period likely means that there will only be four episodes for this spinoff.

On the flip side, fans outside Japan can watch the miniseries on Crunchyroll beginning on October 10.

Specifically, the series will be streamed on Crunchyroll in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and CIS.

Interestingly, the show will air in Japan on October 12 – two days after its Crunchyroll premiere.
