ABC Developing New Marvel Female Superheroes TV Series From Wonder Woman Writer

It's been a pretty interesting day for the Marvel fanbase. The Mickey Mouse House surprised everyone today announcing the production of new shows featuring the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and other Marvel heroes who've never received their own standalone movies.

Now, it looks like ABC is working on a new Marvel Television series of their own, this time centered around "female characters with superpowers."

According to a new report by Deadline, ABC has just decided to commit to working on an untitled hourlong Marvel drama series from Allan Heinberg, the writer of the DC Extended Universes's Wonder Woman. Together with Marvel Television's Jeph Loeb, Heinberg is also to executive produce the new series.

Though Marvel and ABC are keeping the series under tight wraps for now, the publication says that sources have said that the untitled show is going to focus on "lesser-known Marvel characters."

Which of these "lesser-known Marvel characters" is going to be featured in the series is anyone's guess for now, but there's been quite a number of rather obscure female superheroes and female superhero team-ups in Marvel comics over the years. There's been the Lady Liberators, the A-Force, and the Fearless Defenders. Marvel TV and ABC have a smorgasbord of characters to choose from.

The publication's sources also say that the launch of a new Marvel series has been ABC's priority, and apparently Heinberg's project featuring "lesser-known Marvel characters" has been one of the popular candidates in the television network's current pool of selection.

Right now, Heinberg's untitled Marvel series doesn't have a release date, but we'll update as soon as we get word.
