The Summer 2023 anime season is officially underway, and one of the new shows that got a lot of attention is Zom 100, thanks in part to a hilarious easter egg where it seems the animators threw shade at their former studio, OLM.
Specifically, some viewers spotted an easter egg in the anime that seems to be a reference to anime studio OLM, implying the studio’s working conditions are similar to that of a black company.
Aside from this seeming (and funny) attack on a studio, Zom 100 also got a lot of praise for its great opening episode.
Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead Impresses Fans With Premiere Episode
It may not be as hyped up as shows like Jujutsu Kaisen and Mushoku Tensei, but Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead was still a show that many were looking forward to, especially because of its creator.
Specifically, Zom 100 is based on a manga by Haro Aso, the creator of the Alice in Borderland manga that inspired the hit Netflix live-action series of the same name.
Aside from an anime, Zom 100 is also getting a live-action adaptation by Netflix, though it will be released next month.
As for the anime, the show’s first episode was released a few days ago, and it got a lot of praise for its colorful and creative animation and great performance from its lead.
Given how well-received the first episode is, there’s a possibility that the anime will be one of the stand-out shows of the current season.

Zom 100 Animators Throw Shade at OLM in Anime-Original Scenes
What was also praised about the anime is its funny premise. Specifically, the show follows Akira, who is employed by a company with sweatshop-like working conditions.
When a zombie apocalypse happens, Akira is overjoyed as he doesn’t have to go to work anymore.
Though the company wasn’t exactly named in the manga, the company in the anime was named ZLM, complete with a logo that looks a lot like the OLM studio logo.
Along with this, it was also noted that the company’s building in the anime is based on the building where the OLM office is located.
What’s interesting here is that Zom 100 is made by BUG FILMS, which has ex-OLM animators.
Given this, the easter eggs are either attacks on the working conditions in OLM or funny jokes against the staff’s previous studio.
New episodes of the Zom 100 anime are released every week on Hulu, Netflix, and Crunchyroll.
