Marvel's newest show, Echo, is now available to stream on Disney+. It gives us a better look into Maya Lopez's character and her relationship with the Marvel villain Kingpin. In this explainer guide, let's take a look at one of the characters in Echo played by Zahn McClarnon.

Zahn McClarnon is no stranger to the spotlight. Born as Zahn Tokiya-ku McClarnon, the veteran actor was born in Denver, Colorado. His parents are of Hunkpapa Lakota and Irish descent.

Interestingly, McClarnon has a fraternal twin brother. His name, "Tokiya-ku", was given to him by his mother because he was delivered first. The name loosely translates to "first one to come."

The actor grew up in Browning, Montana, since his father worked for the National Park Service and was assigned to the Glacier National Park. This allowed him to frequently visit the Blackfeet Indian Reservation and often stayed with them on weekends.

As an actor, McClarnon got started in a local production of Jesus Christ Superstar. This allowed him to gain more local work before finally moving to Los Angeles in the 1990s to pursue his career.

In 2017, McClarnon encountered a brain injury when he fell at his home. This accident led to the temporary shutdown of Westworld's production, which McClarnon stars in as Akecheta.

What is His Role in Echo?

Echo isn't McClarnon's first appearance in the MCU. He previously starred in Hawkeye, where he played the same role as William Lopez, Maya's father.

William was murdered by Ronin upon a tip from crime lord Kingpin (played by Vincent D'Onofrio). William was also the commander of the Tracksuit Mafia, a criminal organization that followed Wilson Fisk's (Kingpin) orders.

William decided to work with Fisk so he could financially support his deaf daughter. This allowed him to continue sending her to a Deaf school and pursue karate lessons. When William died, Fisk saw Maya's potential despite her disability. This led her to call him 'Uncle'.

Maya witnessed Ronin stabbing her father, who later died in her arms. This led her to seek revenge against him.

Zach McClarnon is a talented actor and has a pretty recognizable face. This is why it's no longer a surprise to remember him from his previous roles in Resolution, Night at the Museum, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, Skins, Cooperstown, Grand Avenue, Not Forgotten, and Westworld.

He was also in Queen of the South, Reservation Dogs, and Castlevania: Nocturne.
