Zack Snyder’s Explanation On Why Watchmen Wouldn’t Work As A Series

Last week, word came out that HBO finally decided to make it official – the premium cable network was giving ordering the very first season of Damon Lindelof's Watchmen series.

There's been a lot of excitement over the small-screen adaptation of Alan Moore's award-winning comic book, not only because fans are going to get a longer and better format for a live-action version of Watchmen, but also because it'll prove Watchmen movie director Zack Snyder wrong.

Though the Watchmen movie has earned itself love from fans, many believe that a series version of Moore's comic book would better convey the complexity of the source material. Snyder didn't quite agree, and his argument about why Watchmen shouldn't be a mini-series has somehow made its way online on Reddit.

A video of Snyder's explanation why Watchmen wouldn't work as a series has just recently been posted on Reddit , and according to the DC Extended Universe director, making a movie was the better option because of special effects and cost, especially when it came to the part of Dr. Manhattan.

"This is a question that has been brought up a lot about 'oh, it should be an HBO miniseries' or whatever which I think is cool, but you know it's like in order...there's no version of this movie where, no HBO miniseries version of Manhattan like that, can't do it, I mean it's just like impractical," Snyder explained in the video. "They'd never spend...each shot of him would be like your budget for an episode of the show."

Of course, things are much more different now. HBO's used to working on big-budget series – take Game of Thrones as an example. Still, we're not really sure how the network's Watchmen series will turn out when it makes its way to television next year, though there's a lot of high expectations for Lindelof and his creative team.

Watchmen hits HBO sometime 2019.
