Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon Casts Rupert Friend as the Main Villain

After the success of Zack Snyder's Justice League and Army of the Dead, director Zack Snyder is currently working on his next feature film project for Netflix which is Rebel Moon, an original science-fiction epic that is said to be inspired by Star Wars. For the past several weeks, we've been hearing casting news regarding the project which includes Justice League star Ray Fisher marking another collaboration between him and Snyder. Now, another actor has joined the film to play the main antagonist.

The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Rupert Friend, who is co-starring in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series, has joined the cast of Rebel Moon. He will play the lead antagonist, who leads the armies and battles against the main character. Army of Thieves star Stuart Martin has also been cast to play another villainous character in the film.

Rebel Moon centers on "a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical regent named Belisarius. Desperate, the colonists dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them make a stand."

Friend and Martin are joining the cast that already includes Sofia Boutella, Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Jena Malone, and Staz Nair. Snyder is directing and co-writing the script with Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead) and Kurt Johnstad (300). He also serves as one of the producers along with his wife Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, and Eric Newman.

It looks like Snyder is casting a group of talented actors for his next film. Friend is definitely a great addition to the cast as proven in his past roles such as in Homeland and The Death of Stalin. He also starred in Hitman: Agent 47 which was a huge showcase of his talent in an action film. Given that he is rumored to play the villain in Obi-Wan Kenobi, it looks like it will continue since he is going to play the antagonist in this film as well.

It is intriguing to see how Rebel Moon will go since this has been one of Snyder's passion projects for years that he's been trying to do and his deal with Netflix made it possible for him to finally make the film. It is also said to be inspired by Star Wars so we can expect that it will be a science-fiction epic. As Snyder has proven in his past films, we know that he can handle a big-budget epic like this and make it a visually-pleasing feast.
