Zack Snyder Gives Logical Comment on Sell The SnyderVerse Campaign

The campaign to #SellTheSnyderVerse has been going on for some time now. Snyderverse fans want Snyder's cut or unseen version to live outside of the DC Universe with this initiative to sell the movie rights to a different platform, particularly Netflix. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has previously slammed the idea of this online petition, and now Zack Snyder himself gave a straight-forward response when asked by Film Junkee's Vodka Stream about whether DC would sell his SnyderVerse to another studio.

“[What’s] probably amazing to learn is that my influence over those things is very small. The truth is, I mean, it would be amazing if… Whatever control over the IP that exists, I don’t… That’s not my part, that’s not my role. That’s, as they say, above my pay grade… But I would say, look… I’ll say one thing: Warner Bros., as far as this screening/event is concerned, has been incredible. This group is now beyond, beyond kind, and caring, and personal, and it’s been amazing working with them, so I have no complaints. Beyond that, as far as the creative goes and what they’re planning, I have honestly been busy shooting this movie. I have no idea what they’re up to.” Snyder reasoned.

Since Snyder left DC, his focus has been on his next project at Netflix, called Rebel Moon, and he seems to have lost interest in the Snyderverse as the company has also moved on from the SnyderVerse, with DC Studios setting a new course for the DC Universe based on a reboot of Snyder's work at DC. The first indication of a shift at DC was Gunn's announcement that Henry Cavill would be replaced as Superman. The change resulted from the new management’s desire for a younger version of the character.

Snyder's films at DC were not critical hits, but the director did gather a devoted fan base interested in the director's unique take on DC's iconic characters, but the revamped DCU might put all that in the past. The studio is ready to embrace its comic book heritage under Gunn and Safran, beginning with the 2025 film Superman: Legacy, which Gunn is both writing and directing. The film will take Clark Kent back to his early years in the comics, shying away from Snyder's dismal depiction.

Snyder’s Justice League is available to watch on HBO Max.
