It has been over a year now since Netflix gave us our first look at their new Yu Yu Hakusho series. Finally, Netflix announced the release date of the Yu Yu Hakusho live-action series, and it’s coming this December.
This new live-action series has yet to get an official trailer, but fans will be happy to know that it won’t be long now until the show’s release.
On top of this, given Netflix’s recent live-action success, there is a chance that this might be worth watching for long-time series fans.
Netflix Aims to Recreate the One Piece Live-Action Formula for Yu Yu Hakusho
Netflix has tried many times in the last couple of years to create a hit live-action project based on an anime. The platform’s success rate has been low though, with shows like Cowboy Bebop being failures.
Things changed this year as Netflix finally landed a hit as the One Piece live-action series exceeded expectations. Aside from topping Netflix’s charts, the show has also gotten great reviews from critics.
Because of this, Netflix looks keen on recapturing the magic of One Piece with its upcoming Yu Yu Hakusho live-action series.
Netflix mentioned this in their announcement. Specifically, Netflix said that it “took the same level of commitment to quality and authenticity” in One Piece for this upcoming project.
There are some differences with this new series though. Unlike One Piece which saw the heavy involvement of Eiichiro Oda, it seems that Yu Yu Hakusho creator Yoshihiro Togashi isn’t involved much in this series.
Plus, while this show is an international co-production, it is primarily made in Japan as it features a Japanese cast.

Yu Yu Hakusho Live-Action Series Gets December Release Date
The upcoming live-action series has been known for quite some time now. Last year, Netflix teased the show with character posters that also revealed the main cast members. These include:
- Takumi Kitamura (Takemichi in Tokyo Revengers live-action) as Yusuke Urameshi
- Shuhei Uesugi (Hiraku Noma in Followers) as Kazama Kuwabara
- Jun Shison (Masa in The Way of the Househusband: The Movie) as Kurama
- Kanata Hongo (Armin in Attack on Titan live-action) as Hie
Finally, Netflix revealed that the Yu Yu Hakusho live-action series will be released on December 14, 2023.
Given that the release is just two months away, chances are that Netflix will release an official teaser for the show in the coming weeks.
