Your Name Anime Director’s Next Film Gets Brand New Stills


Known for his visually-stunning animation, Makoto Shinkai has become one of the most well-known anime directors of the modern age, wowing fans with like The Garden of Words, Children Who Chase Lost Voices, and 5 Centimeters per second.

His latest film, Kimin no Na Wa (Your Name) was the biggest anime film of 2016. Telling the story of a highs school girl in rural Japan and a high school boy in Tokyo who swap bodies every time they dream, the animated romantic fantasy drama movie swept viewers off their feet with its amazing visuals and its captivating story. Not only did it become the 8th highest grossing traditionally animated film, but it also became the fourth highest grossing film of all time in Japan.

Now, after the success of Your Name, Shinkai is working on his next project Tenki no Ko: Weathering With You, a film that many are looking forward to.

Stills from the project were recently released on Twitter, and now fans can see the visual glory of Shinkai's newest movie.

Tenki no Ko: Weathering You which is loosely translated as Children of the Weather: Weathering With You is an animated film which follows the story of a high school student named Hodaka who leaves his island home to move to Tokyo. Broke from the move, Hodaka lives in isolation, however, he soon lands a job as a writer for a strange occult magazine.

The weather in Japan has been terrible ever since he got his new job – that is until he meets Hina, ayoung woman with the power to control the weather.

Tenki no Ko: Weathering You is set for release on July 19, 2019 in Japan.
