It has been a truly long wait for Young Justice Season 3. Luckily, we now have a new teaser and an official release date for 2019.
The new Young Justice: Outsiders teaser has been dropped and it certainly has an ominous tone. The brief trailer shows a shot of Earth followed by the fiery look at the planet Apokolips.
It's no surprise that we're seeing Apokolips in the third season. After all, Season 2 concluded with the War World being brought to Darkseid. Unfortunately, this also means that the young superheroes will be facing one of the most feared supervillains in Outsiders.
Young Justice first aired on Cartoon Network back in 2010. Although the animated series was cancelled in 2013, Warner Bros. Animation confirmed that there would be a third season. That announcement was made back in 2016 so the new teaser is certainly a welcome one.
The cast and crew of Young Justice are certainly excited about the show's upcoming return on the Warner Bros. streaming service DC Universe. Casting director Jamie Thomason told Nerdist that working on Outsiders is "like a wonderful reunion, a great homecoming."
"In truth, I genuinely didn't have a doubt that it would be back. It's just too good a show not to have a couple more seasons to help finishing up with some stories."
Series co-creator Greg Weisman also admitted that the show's switch to DC Universe gave them more freedom to be "more mature."
"It's a little darker. Definitely delves deep into our characters and it also allows us to delve deeper into the DC universe."
We're certainly hoping that we'll see a different side of the young superheroes. Luckily, we don't have to wait too long for Young Justice Season 3.
Young Justice: Outsiders will air on DC Universe on January 4, 2019.
