Young Justice: Outsiders Confirms That a Major Character is Queer

It's the moment many of us have been waiting for and while it's not much of a surprise, at least not to comic book fans, this is still a pretty big deal. The latest episode of Young Justice: Outsiders revealed that Kaldur, the new Aquaman, is queer. While his actual LGBTQ alignment isn't known yet, we can assume that he's bisexual since the character dated a girl in the first season.

During the closing moments of Quiet Conversations, we see Kaldur is a man just as the episode ends. The young man is a protege of Kaldur and, hopefully, he gets a speaking part or two in the next episode. Still, this is a huge moment for the character and it's nice to see the people behind the show embrace an LGBTQ superhero, especially one as major as Kaldur.

Kaldur is openly gay in the current DC landscape, which was revealed back in DC Universe: Rebirth #1 by Geoff Johns and a variety of artists. He briefly joined Damian Wayne's Teen Titans before the group dismantled. The character was originally introduced in Brightest Day #4 back in 2010, though nothing major was made about his sexuality.

New episodes of Young Justice: Outsiders can be streamed on the DC Universe streaming service. The series has been renewed for a fourth season, so this isn't the end of Kaldur and the others.
