Yoo Ju Eun’s sudden death brought back South Korea’s plan to prevent celebrity deaths.

On August 29, Yoo Ju Eun shocked the world when her brother confirmed her untimely passing by suicide. He revealed that it was the actress’s request to share the post to let people know that she felt calm with her decision.

Her brother also unveiled the suicide note she penned before taking her own life, highlighting that her career was both a blessing and curse for her.

Due to the event, the past plan created to prevent celebrity deaths took over the spotlight again.

Plan Failed To Prevent Yoo Ju Eun’s Death

Before the actress passed away, South Korea had already rolled out its suicide prevention plan years ago.

As shared by Variety, it was disclosed that the scheme aims to remove the blind spots in celebrities’ mental health. As part of this plan, the Korean Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) has already increased the number of psychological consultations from 900 to this year’s 1,300.

The country’s mental health service also began sending Heart Relief Bus to check on the celebrities on film sets.

The plan began due to the rising number of suicide cases in the country and the entertainment industry. In fact, The Guardian’s Kim Dae O reported in January 2020 that he, alone, reported the deaths of 30 Korean celebrities.

Unfortunately, Yoo Ju Eun’s case became the latest in the issue, and her suicide letter revealed the industry's dark side.

Yoo Ju Eun’s Suicide Letter

In a since-deleted Twitter post that included her suicide letter (as shared by Sports Chosun), Yoo Ju Eun discussed her career and how it affected her mental health.

She opened up about her love for acting, but her path in the industry was not easy at all.

Part of her suicide letter read:
“I wanted to act so badly. Perhaps it was my all, and it was a part of me. However, living that life wasn’t easy. I don’t want to do anything else. That was so hopeless. Having something you want to do is a blessing, but I realized that only wanting to do that thing is a curse.”

Before her death, Yoo Ju Eun starred in Big Forest and Joseon Survival Period. She did not have any notable roles.
