Season one of Showtime’s survival series wrapped up on Jan. 16, but fans are already wondering when Yellowjackets Season 2 will premiere, understandably. And it appears we won’t have to wait for too long, according to Showtime Networks president of entertainment Gary Levine.

When Will Yellowjackets Season 2 Happen?

Levine recently told Vulture that the survival drama likely would return before 2023.

“We are working towards a premiere at the end of 2022,” the executive said.

Ideally, the network aims for the show to be an “annual cycle. I think our audiences deserve that, and I also think that when you have a show that has this kind of a momentum, you don’t want to let it dissolve.”

Who will Return in Yellowjackets Season 2?

We may expect to see the series' main characters return, including Shauna (Melanie Lynskey), Taissa (Tawny Cypress), Natalie (Juliette Lewis), and Misty (Christina Ricci), as well as their teen counterparts (Sophie Nelisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, and Samantha Hanratty, respectively). It's also possible that the present-day Yellowjackets' families, such as Shauna's husband and daughter, and Tai's wife and kid, will return.

Given the whole freezing-to-death scenario, it's probably safe to assume Jackie (Ella Purnell) will not return. Even though Van (Liv Hewson) came perilously near to death, she appears to be returning next season.

Lottie (Courtney Eaton), the "Antler Queen," appears to have a significant role in Yellowjackets Season 2. There are still a lot of unanswered concerns about her character from 1996 (will we ever find out what she was medicating for? ), but it looks like we'll get to meet the present-day Lottie as well.

What Will Happen in the Upcoming Season of Yellowjackets?

Given that we know the team has been stranded in the wilderness for 19 months, and we've only seen them throughout the summer, fall, and early winter of 1996, the dual storyline is bound to continue.

We're hoping to learn more about Travis' death and why present-day Natalie was kidnapped. As Levine mentioned, there are still a lot of unknowns about how many survivors there are – we only found out Lottie is still alive in the season one finale.

Given its character dynamics, Yellowjackets might go well beyond Season 2, and that’s according to Levine himself.
