X-Men Star Rebecca Romijn Expresses Interest in X-Men's Mystique Return

Marvel Cinematic Studios' Phase 4 currently revolves around the multiverse storyline and as seen in Spider-Man: No Way Home's brief introduction to the multiverse concept, hints that any character from the past franchises could possibly return.

The highly-anticipated Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is MCU's next thorough dive into the multiverse. Just when we thought No Way Home is 2022's best crossover film, Marvel is set to beat its own record. The Doctor Strange sequel is rumored to have multiple appearances of renowned characters from past massive franchises, including the likes of Fantastic Four's Reed Richards, Captain Carter, and X-Men's Professor X.

The Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' latest trailer shocked every MCU fan when they unveiled a scene of Doctor Strange in The Illuminati's location, revealing a glimpse of Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier aka Professor X.

Now that an X-Men character is confirmed for the Doctor Strange sequel, how many X-Men characters can possibly return?

Rebecca Romijn, who played Raven aka Mystique in Bryan Singer's X-Men Trilogy, expressed interest in reprising her role as Mystique. In an interview with Comicbook.com during Star Trek: Strange New World's press junket, where Romijn stars as Number One, the actress was asked about the possibility of returning as Mystique in the MCU. Romijn responded,

"I don't know if they would ever want me back," the actress says. "I mean, that was quite a few years back when I played that character, but I would love to, yeah, absolutely. It was a fantastic franchise to be a part of. I'll love that cast until the day I die. We had a great time together. And yeah, I would absolutely be open to that."

Rebecca Romijn superbly portrayed the blue-skinned mutant back in 2000's X-Men and 2003's X2. However, in the trilogy's final film, Romijn's character faced a tragic fate and lost her powers.

Several years after the X-Men Trilogy concluded, a reboot helmed by Matthew Vaughn introduced a new set of X-Men characters that unfortunately no longer includes Rebecca Romijn and was replaced by Jennifer Lawrence.

Mystique is a skilled combatant with a really flexible body, but her distinction as a mutant is her shapeshifting ability. Mystique is also a classic X-Men character in both live-action and Comics, and if Marvel ever decided to introduce the X-Men into the MCU, Mystique could definitely make it on the list.

For now, we can catch up with MCU's latest project, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesss, premiering in theaters on May 4.
