2023 marks the beginning of a new era for the DC Universe and excitement and uncertainty are in the air now that James Gunn and Peter Safran are leading the charge. Last year, the duo shook the franchise to its very core when it was revealed that several projects that were once on the table are no longer happening under the "new" DCU, including Man of Steel 2, Black Adam 2, and Wonder Woman 3 which raised a number of eyebrows within the comic book film community.

Speaking of the Patty Jenkins project, there have been conflicting reports about DC Studios' decision to cancel the project altogether, and even lead star Gal Gadot's status as Diana Prince has been shrouded in doubt as of late. Now, a new report sheds light on Gunn and Safran's plans for the first three years of the franchise and it's something longtime fans may not be thrilled about.

As per a report from Variety, Gunn and Safran will soon unveil their plans for the new DCU's initial years and much to everyone's shock, the trade claims that it doesn't involve Gadot's Wonder Woman.

It's worth noting that before the shake-up took place, the DC Studios duo iterated that DC's flagship characters like Superman, Batman, and even Wonder Woman will be on their list of priorities so it's hard to buy into this latest report.

The reception to Gunn and Safran's new DCU has been mixed but here's to hoping that the duo will make good on their promise to put the fans first before anything else. I mean, if anything, now's the time for DC to truly turn the tide and they can't afford to commit the same mistakes the previous regime made.

In other DC news, Shazam! Fury of the Gods is scheduled for theatrical release on March 17, 2023.
