Wonder Woman 1984 Will Reportedly Reboot The DCEU With A Flashpoint-Like Story

Earlier this week, fans were surprised to hear Gal Gadot making the announcement that Warner Brothers had decided to move Wonder Woman 1984 from its original 2019 release date to a 2020 showing. The first Wonder Woman had been a massive success, and many were eager to see the film's sequel. Now, a few days after the announcement, word on the mill claims that Wonder Woman 1984 may very well reboot the DC Extended Universe.

According to a new report by comic book movie reviewer Grace Randolph, the main reason why Warner Brothers decided to delay the sequel to Wonder Woman was so that the studio could do significant reshoots to incorporate a Flashpoint-like storyline that could change the direction of the DCEU.

Emphasizing that while Wonder Woman 1984 won't be featuring Ezra Miller's Flash or DC Comic's Flashpoint story, Randolph explains that Gal Gadot's Diana Prince would try to save Steve Trevor in the film, and that would cause significant changes to the DCEU's timeline. You know the same way Barry Allen's little trip to the past to save his mother caused major changes to his timeline as well.

Apparently, Warner Bros. no longer wants to wait for The Flash to reboot the DCEU, so they're incorporating the timeline shift in Wonder Woman 1984 instead. Word also has it that The Flash will drop its "Flashpoint" story to make way for a lighter tone that follows films like Back to the Future.

This is definitely interesting news, however, fans ought to remember that these reports should be taken with a grain of salt. Randolph might be a respected reviewer, but a rumor remains a rumor until there's actual confirmation from the studios and persons involved. Let's wait and see what happens.

Wonder Woman 1984 is scheduled to premiere June 5, 2020.
