Wind Breaker has been getting a lot of attention from anime fans shortly after its premiere. That’s not just because it has an action-packed first episode though. It’s also because Wind Breaker has been getting a lot of comparisons to Tokyo Revengers.

If you’ve seen the first episode, chances are that you’ll also think it’s reminiscent of Ken Wakui’s Shonen Magazine series. After all, the two share lots of elements.

The Wind Breaker anime is the latest project from CloverWorks, the studio behind shows such as My Dress-Up Darling and Bocchi the Rock!

Wind Breaker is a bit of a departure from CloverWorks' recent projects. While it also has a school setting, it’s a show that’s firmly in the yanki genre.

This new anime follows Haruka Sakura, a student who transfers to Furin High School, which features a gang-like group of delinquents.

Given how the series shares a somewhat similar setting and gang-like students, Wind Breaker and Tokyo Revengers are comparable. Taking out the superficial elements though, these two anime have lots of differences.

For starters, Tokyo Revengers’ style looks more heavily inspired by Japan’s biker gangs. Moreover, it features time-bending elements, which Wind Breaker doesn’t seem to share.

As for their protagonists, Tokyo Revengers Takemichi is often called a crybaby. On the flip side, Wind Breaker’s Haruka is way more hot-blooded, though he has a surprising tsundere side.

As both shows follow school delinquents, a lot of fans are already comparing Wind Breaker with Tokyo Revengers.

It’s still too early to say whether one show is better than the other, but some fans are already saying that Wind Breaker’s fight animation looks smoother and better overall.

Others are also saying that they like Haruka more than Takemichi, though again, that’s just based on his appearance in episode 1, so it’s not a definitive opinion yet.

That’s not to say that Wind Breaker is getting rave reviews. While the show has gotten a lot of attention, many viewers are hoping that the series will have an interesting story and not just be about fighting.
