William Shatner Weighs In On Star Trek 4 Losing Chris Pine

There was a whole lot of concern when word came out that Star Trek actors Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth were being taken out of Star Trek 4 because of failed negotiations with Paramount studios.

Pine and Hemsworth play major characters in the Star Trek franchise, Kirk being the film franchise's Captain James T. Kirk and Hemsworth being Kirk's father, George Samuel Kirk, Sr.

Now, speaking in an interview with Trek Movie, the legendary original Captain James T. Kirk actor William Shatner has decided to give two cents about Paramount losing Pine for Star Trek 4. Not only does the actor relate, saying that he found himself in the same situation once, but Shatner also gushes over the Wonder Woman star, calling him a good leading man in a good negotiating position.

"Well, we negotiated," Shatner said. "I don't recall, although there is something vaguely reminiscent about saying, ‘I can't do that.' But, Chris is in a wonderful position in that he is so good and such a leading man, that he has many opportunities to explore without being Captain Kirk. So he is in a really good negotiating position. I think he's doing the right thing in terms of getting more money, as the movies seem to be making a lot of money."

While Star Trek fans might want to keep Pine for longer, Shatner seems to be more interested in Pine's long-term career as an actor, and his main advice for Pine would be to look elsewhere to make more money. Still, Shatner also advises Pine not to take him too seriously, because he actually knows very little about negotiations.

"I know nothing. I am a negotiator, but that is for travel," Shatner joked. "I can get you a ticket you wouldn't believe!"

Hopefully though Pine and Paramount sort things out so we'll get to see Kirk again in Star Trek 4.
