Will Smith Expresses Interest to Play Deadshot Again

When the cast for James Gunn's The Suicide Squad was announced, the most notable character that was missing is Will Smith's Deadshot. Fans have been wondering if the actor will ever reprise his role again in the DCEU. After all, when Idris Elba was cast, he was supposed to replace him in the role, but instead, he played a new character named Bloodsport which leaves an opportunity for Smith to return in the future.

In a recent "Undercover" video that he did for GQ, Smith responded to a fan question about his absence on The Suicide Squad. He said, "Yeah, I was working and they were ready to shoot. It was a timing issue." Then, he asked the producer if Deadshot didn't get recast on the film, which the producer confirmed. "All right, cool, so I can come back," the actor reacted in relief.

It seems like Smith is actually open to come back on playing Deadshot since he didn't express any disdain and he sounded relieved when he learned the confirmation that Elba wasn't playing his character, which leaves the door for him to come back as Deadshot someday. After all, during the development of the sequel, Smith did express his interest to return. Unfortunately, as he mentioned in the video, scheduling conflicts led him to back out. Elba's Bloodsport took the "mercenary" spot in the group as a result.

Smith's performance as Deadshot was praised by fans during the release of the first film. He was considered as one of the strongest parts, even though the film itself was widely panned. There were a lot of conversations regarding a spinoff film surround the character, but it never got to fruition. Now that we know that Smith is actually open to returning as the character, maybe those talks could happen again and they can find a way for him to integrate again into the DCEU.
