Why Stan Lee Put Almost Every Marvel Hero in New York

Stan Lee might have been a comic book genius but some of the decisions he made have often led fans to scratch their heads and ask "why?" One of those decisions was when Lee decided to have a majority of his Marvel heroes live in New York, a tradition that continues to this day. Sure, there are times when the character's move to a different city but for the most part, they are all stuck in New York.

Daredevil is in Hell's Kitchen, Spider-Man lives in Queens, Steve Rogers hails from Brooklyn, the list goes on and on. As a tribute to Stan "The Man" Lee, The New York Times posted a story that answers why most of the Marvel heroes live in this city. Lee did this to make the heroes a bit more relatable since characters like Batman and Superman live in made up places like Gotham and Metropolis.

This ended up being an effective strategy since a lot of fans really dug seeing real-life locations on their comic books. In fact, fans still like it now since Insomniac's Spider-Man game has also led to a couple of cool moments where fans are surprised to see a part of the city they once visited.

Of course, this has also led to its fair share of problems. Fans tend to ask why the villains don't just move somewhere else since the city is filled with heroes. It's also odd that the heroes don't help each other out more often.
