Here's Why Marvel Has No Plans to Do a Namor Solo Movie Anytime Soon

Namor finally made his debut in the MCU recently when he was introduced as the antagonist in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The character instantly became a fan favorite and a lot of people are now clamoring for him to get his own solo movie. However, you may want to hold your breath on that as it looks like it won't be happening anytime soon due to a specific reason.

According to TheWrap, similar to the situation with the Hulk, Marvel Studios is not allowed to do a Namor solo film since Universal Pictures still has the film rights to both Marvel characters. The character's appearance in Wakanda Forever was made possible due to a deal between the two studios.

However, producer Nate Moore assured when he spoke with the outlet that Namor can still make future appearances in the MCU. "He can return," he confirmed although they are forbidden from making any solo movie surrounding the character.

Furthermore, Marvel Studios and Disney are also not allowed to use the character in the marketing materials unless he is part of a series of posters, which is what they've done in Wakanda Forever.

"It honestly affects us more, and not to talk too much out of school, but in how we market the film than it does how we use him in the film," Moore said.

"There weren’t really things we couldn’t do from a character perspective for him, which is good because clearly, we took a ton of inspiration from the source material, but we also made some big changes to really anchor him in that world in a truth that publishing never really landed on, I would argue, in a big way."

It is unfortunate to hear that Namor will not be getting his solo movie in the MCU anytime soon since a lot of fans have been clamoring about it ever since the film was released. With what they set up with the character, there are a lot of possibilities that they could have explored if he has his own standalone film.

At the very least, we can count on the character to appear in another MCU film whether it's in an Avengers movie or perhaps a third Black Panther film. Despite the legal complications surrounding his rights, it is still formidable that he will be a major presence in the MCU moving forward.
