It seems like Takemichi of Tokyo Revengers is following in the footsteps of the crybaby of My Hero Academia. Like Deku, Takemichi bursts into tears whenever he is in a pinch or when things don’t go according to his plan and/or liking. With that said, it's natural to wonder: why does Takemichi cry so much in Tokyo Revengers despite being a member of the all-powerful Tokyo Manji Gang?

Takemichi, along with Akkun, was the original leader of his made-up gang, if our memory serves us well. Takemichi's outfit, with his blonde pompadour hair and baggy jeans, shouts classic delinquent who no one wants to tangle with. His pride and ego, however, are quickly crushed as he is forced back into reality by the horrible thugs of the Tokyo Manji Gang. Takemichi's once-proud and formidable reputation seemed to have vanished in a flash.

It's rare to find an anime protagonist who sobs excessively over little events, especially in shounen anime shows where the protagonist is always depicted as a powerful and endowed individual with boundless talent and potential. As a result, male characters like Takemichi from Tokyo Revengers and Deku from My Hero Academia are frequently chastised by anime fans for their emotional failings.

Takemichi Hanagaki, on the other hand, is unlike any other character in Tokyo Revengers. Despite being surrounded by some of the greatest fighters in the Tokyo Manji Gang, such as Manjiro Sano and Drakken, Takemichi stands out for his tank-like durability, strong and moving personality, and penchant for achieving his goals at the cost of his own life.

He, unlike everyone else, lacks the ability to participate in a war of combat skills. In actuality, his fighting skills are on par with those of an average delinquent; he's not horrible, but neither is he good. He isn't particularly weak; his power comes from his tank-like endurance, which allows him to outlast his foes until help arrives.

While some anime fans are hoping for Takemichi to return to the series as a strong and capable fighter, it appears that he will forge his own path and find a way to become Toman's No. 1 without relying on his fighting abilities. Perhaps his unconventional methods of persuasion and pressing others to return to the good side would help him save his friends and, in turn, transform his living situation in the future.

Takemichi cries a lot in Tokyo Revengers because he can't communicate his sentiments to the other person using his combat abilities. He allows his emotions to control him while simultaneously bombarding his head with negative and positive notions.

We can only infer that Takemichi is an overthinker, as seen by his internal rants anytime something is awry in the series. His head is filled with conflicting thoughts, which worry not only his personal safety but the safety of everyone around him. It's as if nervousness is sneaking upon him as he realizes the ramifications of his actions if things don't go as planned. Takemichi, after all, despises it when he loses control of a situation.

For Takemichi, crying is the last resort for him to fight alongside his friends. While he lacks fighting skills, he is capable of motivating and moving his teammates to complete the task, as well as throwing a few punches here and there.

In any case, sobbing does not imply that Takemichi is a weak person. After all, we cry for a variety of reasons. People weep when they are very delighted, joyful, sad, or upset, therefore linking Takemichi's physical prowess to his reputation as a crybaby is irrelevant. While some fans find it irritating, others cheer for Takemichi to finish the job, even if it means shedding a hundred buckets of tears in the process.
