Why Captain Marvel Has Makeup and Straighter Hair in Avengers: Endgame

When Captain Marvel first appeared in the Avengers: Endgame trailer, some fans were furious when they saw the cosmic heroine's new appearance. Unlike her solo film, the character suddenly decided to wear makeup and straighten her hair, almost as if they decided to make her look prettier for the big crossover. That doesn't mean makeup isn't feminist since women are allowed to do whatever they want to their faces, it just seemed like something Carol wouldn't do.

During an interview with Slashfilm, Joe Russo revealed that the reason Carol has makeup and fixed hair wasn't to make her prettier but because actress Brie Larson was still deciding what she wanted to do with the character. Since Endgame was filmed before Captain Marvel came out, it's easy to see why Larson would still be confused with what she wants to do.

"She did [Avengers: Endgame] before she filmedCaptain Marvel, and I think she was experimenting with what the character was. And those were the choices that she and her hair and makeup team had made. And I think as she started to gain a deeper understanding of the character, especially as she approached her own movie. She started to make different choices and as an artist she should be afforded that right to make whatever choice that she wants to make."

Now that Larson and Marvel Studios have a better grasp of the character, it will be interesting to see what they do with her in the sequel. Hopefully, they flesh out her personality more and we get to see more conflict for the cosmic-powered titan.

Avengers: Endgame comes out on April 26.
