Why Ant-Man and The Wasp Won't Have Any Major Avengers Cameos

One reason fans are excited to see Ant-Man and The Wasp is to keep up with MCU continuity. Another reason people will be seeing the movie is for possible cameos from The Avengers since recent MCU films have almost-always had a special guest spot for these characters. Turns out that those fans might be disappointed since the sequel won't really have any major Avengers cameos.

Peyton Reed, the film's director, confirmed this while speaking with CinemaBlend. Reed felt that the movie would not benefit from any of them appearing in Ant-Man and The Wasp since he wanted the movie to be standalone. Granted, events from Captain America: Civil War will have to be referenced but it's still a noble goal.

"I always envisioned this as a standalone movie. Obviously when you see the movie you'll see how it ties into the larger universe, but I like that Hope and Scott and Hank are operating in this little corner of the universe. And then you sort of... you know how it ties into the larger thing, you know the timeline, but they're doing their own thing over there."

Reed feels that the standalone nature of this sequel is a good thing since it harkens back to the old days of Marvel comics. Back then Spider-Man would swing around, run into Thor for a hot minute and go back to minding his own business while a caption below tells fans to purchase Journey into Mystery.

Hopefully, post-Avengers 4 MCU movies will be like this since constant recaps about Thanos or the Infinity Stones often felt repetitive with Avengers: Age of Ultron being a prime example.

Ant-Man and The Wasp will hit theaters this week on July 6.
