Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special is Marvel’s contribution to this year's Christmas movie list.

The film begins with a short animation of a young Peter Quill’s Christmas experience. Yondu refuses to celebrate the Holiday season despite Peter’s efforts to build a Christmas Tree and wrap gifts for everyone.

The scene then cuts to a real-life Kraglin (played by Sean Gunn) who tells the story to the rest of the Guardians. After we get to a quick introduction of what the Guardians are up to and meet new characters, like Cosmo the Dog, we follow Peter, who is interrupted by a group of aliens holding instruments from Earth.

A very confused Star-Lord listening to I Don't Know What Christmas Is (But Christmastime Is Here)

The band tried their best to sing about Christmas with their very (veyr) limited knowledge of how the holiday works. We see the band name in the credits as Bzermikitokolok and the Knowheremen with Bzermikitokolok on rhythm guitar, Kortobookalia on bass, Sliyavastajoo on lead guitar, and Phloko on drums.

Puzzled by the Christmas traditions humans practice on Earth, the band attempted to create a Christmas song that has a charm of its own, aptly called I Don’t Know What Christmas Is (But Christmastime is Here).

By the end of the Holiday film, we see everyone exchanging gifts while Bzermikitokolok and the Knowheremen is once again playing their signature hilarious tune, this time singing a more heartfelt song, Here It Is Christmastime.

Bzermikitokolok and the Knowheremen / The Old 97's

Bzermikitokolok and the Knowheremen was portrayed by an actual band known as The Old 97’s.

The Old 97’s is a Texas-based alt-country band that started producing music in the 1990s and was one of the three bands Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn listened to (the other two are The Replacements and Hanoi Rocks).

When Gunn was making the first Guardians of the Galaxy film in 2014, he reportedly called up The Old 97’s, hoping to include their music in the soundtrack. This, however, did not push through since the band's music was much later than Star-Lords preferred 70’s bands. Gunn took the earliest chance he could to include the band in the Holiday Special.
