Edgin and the gang go on a quest to retrieve a powerful relic, but they encounter foes along the way, such as Forge Fitzwilliam, the new Lord of Neverwinter, and the Red Wizard Sofina, his ally. But are these two the only villains in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves? Who was the zombie-like monster Sofina was in contact with?
This creature is none other than Szass Tam, one of the most powerful Red Wizards in history. In an interview with IGN, the co-directors of the film describe the villain Szass Tam:
John Francis Daley describes him as a “huge potential threat to not only our characters, but the world that they live in.” On the other hand, Jonathan Goldstein describes the villain as “super creepy, very powerful, and there's a lot of mystery about him.”

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves: Who is the Villain Szass Tam?
Szass Tam was a member of the Red Wizards of Thay, a group of powerful sorcerers who wished to create a world filled with the undead. He was part of the Council of Zulkirs, which consisted of eight of the most powerful Red Wizards in history. Szass Tam was once a necromancer, a master manipulator, and Regent of Thay, one of the many countries in the Forgotten Realms.
Following his death, Szass Tam returned to life as a lich, an extremely powerful spellcaster known for mastery of dark magic. As a lich, Szass Tam used his influence and led the Red Wizards in building an undead army and launching attacks on other nations.

Szass Tam's Role in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
Sofina worked for Szass Tam the entire time. He appears in contact with Sofina, instructing her on what to do. He also appears in a flashback scene from Xenk’s past, where he turned the people of Thay into undead creatures.
While Szass Tam only appears for a short time in the film, he clearly remains a master manipulator working in the shadows. Though Edgin and the gang defeated Sofina, Szass Tam’s threat still lingers, hiding in the shadows. Thus, this villain might have a bigger role should there be a sequel to the film.
