Who Is Father Domingo, Joaquim de Almeida's Shogun Role?
In Shogun, Joaquim de Almeida portrays Domingo, a friar from the order of St. Francis.
The 2024 FX show isn't the character's first appearance, as Domingo debuted in the series' source material, James Clavell's book of the same name.
Domingo then got adapted in the 1980 mini-series adaptation before returning in the new series, with Joaquim de Almeida's portrayal.
At the start of the series, Father Domingo is a prisoner of lord Yoshii Toranaga.

Joaquim de Almeida is a Portuguese actor who began his acting career in the 1980s.
Before appearing in films and TV series, the actor appeared in theater productions both in his native Portugal and elsewhere in Europe and America.
He's fluent in five languages: English, French, Italian, Spanish and German.
Joachim de Almeida has previously appeared in several films. His debut on the big screen was in The Soldier, a 1982 action film.
Since then, he also appeared in The Burning Plain (2008) as Nick Martinez, in Our Brand Is Crisis (2015) as Pedro Castillo, and in Downsizing (2018) as Dr. Oswaldo Pereira among many other roles.
On TV shows, you might have seen him as Don Epifanio Vargas in the 2016-2018 American crime drama Queen of the South.
Recently, Joachim de Almeida had another role as a religious figure in a hit TV series as he portrayed Cardinal Duretti in the Warrior Nun show.
