Several fans were excited to see Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at the recently concluded Oscar Awards. The anticipation built up after several tabloids claimed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would be presenting the best picture award.
Daily Mail Diary editor and "Palace Confidential" host Richard Eden tweeted shortly before the program began, writing: "Only a few hours until we find out if Prince Harry and Meghan really are presenting an Oscar."
Meanwhile, one fan said she was going to the Oscars and was excited to see the former Suits star at the event.
"I'm going to the Oscars for the first time this Sunday (like actually going inside to have seat) where BEYONCÉ will perform and MEGHAN MARKLE will (possibly) be there!!!!" one person tweeted. "Y'all. Y'ALL!!!!! I have died and gone to Black Girl Heaven."
"Tell Meghan I love her! I'm so jealous," another supporter commented.
On the other hand, some also laughed at Prince Harry and Markle's absence.

Although many were expecting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at the 2022 Oscars, they actually never confirmed that they were invited or were going to the event.
Also, their absence shouldn't be a shock because days before the 94th Academy Awards, Deadline released the full list of Oscar presenters, which included Jason Momoa, Jacob Elordi, Jake Gyllenhaal, Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Rachel Zegler and more. Prince Harry and Markle were not mentioned on the list.

Moreover, it was probably best for the couple to skip the Hollywood event. Royal commentator Angela Mollard warned them that there would be "outrage" if Prince Harry would show up at the glamorous event after announcing earlier this month that he would be skipping his grandfather Prince Philip's memorial service.
"There's a lot of talk [that] it’s going to go ahead, but can you really turn up and stand on the stage at the Oscars and not turn up for your grandfather’s memorial?" Mollard said on the Australian morning show "Sunrise." "I've got a problem with that. You do all the glory and handshaking with the celebrities but [not] your own family."
