What If...? Producer Confirms Marvel Zombies Animated Series Setting

During the Disney+ Day celebration last Friday, Marvel Studios announced that they are working on a Marvel Zombies animated series. Since then, fans have been wondering if the series will be connected to the What If...? episode or it will be entirely on its own. Now, we finally have the answer.

In the recent episode of the podcast This Week in Marvel, What If...? executive producer Brad Winderbaum discussed the project in which he revealed where exactly the series will be set in. He said, "Of course, we revealed that we’re doing a series about Marvel Zombies, continuing the universe that was set up in What If…? [It will] take a look at that universe with a different lens."

There you go, we have a confirmation that the Marvel Zombies animated series will be connected to the fifth episode of What If...?. If that is the case, we can consider it as a spin-off of the series. Bryan Andrews, who directed the What If...? episodes, will also direct the series. Marvel Comics writer Zeb Wells will serve as the head writer.

It is interesting to hear that they are going to follow up on the What If...? episode which ended on a cliffhanger where we saw Peter Parker, Scott Lang, and T'Challa going to Wakanda which is now ruled by a zombified Thanos and wielded an almost-complete Infinity Gauntlet. Based on the information, it looks like the series will address the cliffhanger and follow the three surviving heroes as they navigate the zombie apocalyptic world.

With almost all Earth-bound heroes zombified or have died, what will the series exactly look like and who will be the main characters besides the three? One possibility is that we will see cosmic heroes such as Thor and Captain Marvel or the Guardians of the Galaxy as the ones who might be able to save the world and rescue the surviving characters. We will find out later on.
