What If...? Almost Featured Star Wars' Luke Skywalker Becoming an Avenger

If it wasn't obvious enough, Marvel Studios is stepping out of its comfort zone and taking the opportunity to experiment with Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It can't be denied that their upcoming animated project is What If...? is the perfect venue for Kevin Feige and his team of creators to tell new stories the franchise previously wasn't allowed to tell and in the "proper" MCU timeline.

As the title suggests, What If...? will explore entirely new territory and it's already safe to say that we can expect to see some mind-blowing stuff go down in the series. Apparently, the brilliant minds behind the animated series had some pretty crazy ideas for the project which would have involved another hit media franchise.

Speaking with Collider, What If...? head writer A.C. Bradley admitted that she wanted the series to become an official crossover event between Star Wars and Marvel. Bradley shared that she had an outrageous idea that would've seen Luke Skywalker become an Avenger but Marvel Studios ultimately turned it down.

Bradley shared: "I was kind of notorious for trying to get a Star Wars character involved. We did try at one point, but it's kind of like play with the sandbox you were given. We gave you the entire MCU. Run with that. And, I was like 'Okay. But still, Luke Skywalker would be an amazing Avenger.'"

Despite the fact that both franchises live under the same Disney umbrella, it's quite obvious that Marvel Studios isn't ready to do a grand crossover with beloved characters from a galaxy far, far away and I gotta say, as interesting as that would be, I think it's best that we leave both franchises doing their own thing instead of making things complicated for the viewers. Let Marvel be Marvel and Star Wars be Star Wars.

What If...? will premiere on August 11 only on Disney+.
