Jet, leader of the Freedom Fighters, was initially introduced as the good guy who tried to save one of the towns in the Earth Kingdom from the Fire Nation's encampment.

Only, his plan involved killing off the town by letting them get swept by the dam, with the ultimate goal of banishing the enemy. While Aang, Katara, and Sokka managed to foil his plan, this wasn't the last time we saw the kid.

The last time we saw Jet in Avatar: The Last Airbender was when he told Aang and his friends, but especially Katara, that he had changed, and offered his help to search for the Avatar's lost Sky Bison.

In Book 2 Episode 16 titled Lake Laogai, Jet tries to save Katara and the others, even though he is under a hypnotic spell from Long Feng, one of the most powerful Earth-benders and agents of the Dai Li.

Despite Long Feng's brainwashing, Jet breaks out from under the spell, which unfortunately leads him to get struck by the Earth-bender, and collapse to the ground.

As much as Katara tries to heal what she can of Jet's injury, the other members of the Freedom Fighters insist he should be left with them.

Jet tells Katara he'll be fine, but Toph uses her truth-seeking powers and tells Sokka, "He's lying" as the group walk away from the scene, to the sound of Jet's friends' pained crying.

This is where fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender last saw Jet. So, does this mean he died in season 2? If not, what happened to him? Here's what the animation's creators had to say.

ATLA creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzo have since explained what happened to Jet off-screen.

In the DVD commentary, Avatar Extras, for the season 3 episode titled The Ember Island Players, the creators stated, "For the record: Jet is dead."

The obscurity of his disappearance is because Nickelodeon insisted that the kids' show shouldn't feature a kid's death on-screen, hence, why Jet dying was merely implied.

Now, it remains to be seen how much of the original show we'll be seeing in the Netflix live-action adaptation or if they plan on changing what happened to Jet, but we'll be sure to keep you updated once episodes start streaming.

The live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender premieres on Netflix on February 22.
