While fans are starting to learn how the timelines work in Constellation, episode 7 titled Through the Looking Glass provided more evidence as to how the alternatives are different from one another.

The seemingly common waypoint in crossing both worlds seems to be in the snowy cabin Jo (played by Noomi Rapace) usually visited.

Episode 7 highlights the two versions of Alice communicating with one another through their tape recorders, and apparently, the paintings in the cabin also hold meaning.

There are two types of paintings shown in the episode. However, both were created by the same painter known as Finnish Hugo Simberg.

On the one hand is Simberg's The Wounded Angel (first photo), with the other being his The Poor Devil by the Fire; The Devil by the Pot. These two happen to reflect the story of the show.

The first painting implies that the "angel" is Jo, who is finally nearing the end of her suffering despite switching places with her alternate self.

However, this comes at a price. Even though she is on the path to "healing herself", as the second painting is shown, Jo still yearns to be by her actual daughter Alice's side.

Nearing the end of episode 7, we see the two paintings mash together. As seen in the image above, the two men from The Wounded Angel join the painting of The Poor Devil By the Fire.

Not only does this confirm that the two iterations of Alice can communicate with one another, but it also indicates further evidence that the two timelines are real and exist in their worlds.

It may also pertain to how Jo is "alienated" in the world where she was switched, and how both versions of her daughter are forced to create a space for communication to reach out to each other.
