In the movie, Archie (played by Charlie Evans) and his sister, Rose (played by Farrah Mackenzie), hit the woods in search of the herd of deer that Rose saw. As they head back to their vacation home, Archie suddenly stops in his tracks as he tends to a painful bite in his ankle.

The scene does not reveal more about this mysterious bug so it wasn't explained how Archie got sick. After he got bit, everyone heard a shrill noise. The noise was heard twice before everyone called it a night.

While in bed, Amanda (played by Julia Roberts) says that Archie feels warm. This didn't bother her, however, and said that he'll be okay. The next morning, Archie no longer feels warm but wakes up with his teeth feeling weird.

As he touches his teeth, they start feeling loose and he pulls them out. He also vomits blood later in the film.

It isn't explained whether the bug that bit Archie in Leave the World Behind was what caused him to get sick or his teeth to start falling out. Another theory that viewers have is that it could have been the shrill noise that they all heard.

If it was the latter, however, why is Archie the only one to experience symptoms? It's possible that he could have the weakest system, which is why he got affected first.

Another possibility is that the combination of the bug and shrill noise was what caused Archie to get sick.

The bug that bit Archie in Leave the World Behind may be a deer tick that commonly causes Lyme disease. This is an inflammatory disease that those who spend a lot of time in the woods tend to get.

The symptoms of the disease include a rash, headache, fever, and chills. There are also some cases when it can lead to neurological and cardiac-related disorders. However, there is no direct correlation between Lyme disease and dental health.

Lyme disease can, however, infest the root canals or cause damage to one's teeth.
