Weeekly Jiyoon permanently left the girl group after having several hiatuses in the past months.

Jiyoon, alongside the six other members of Weeekly, made history by becoming the first girl group under IST Entertainment since Apink’s debut. Although they debuted at the same time as groups from the biggest K-pop entertainment agencies, they proved their capacity by scoring several accolades in the past years.

However, one of their members – Jiyoon – would no longer be part of the promotions due to a worrying issue.

Jiyoon Leaves Weeekly

On Wednesday, Weeekly’s agency confirmed Jiyoon’s departure from the group.

According to IST Entertainment, the K-pop idol decided to leave the spotlight due to health concerns. With that, the girl group would continue as a six-membered group instead.

It turned out that Jiyoon had been experiencing anxiety symptoms during their promotions, and it affected her so much that she had to be on hiatus twice last summer.

“With the artist’s health as our top priority, Jiyoon herself, her family, medical experts, and IST Entertainment had been cautiously discussing whether she was ready to resume her activities. However, we have reached the decision that Jiyoon needs to be in an environment where she can focus on her mental health above all else and that she should continue to focus on receiving treatment,” the company said.

Jiyoon’s departure made Wednesday’sspot empty. But the agency pledged that the remaining six members would work hard to fill her space.

Jiyoon’s Recurring Anxiety Issues

Previously, the agency released a statement announcing her temporary absence from Weeekly’s activities as the group promoted their mini-album, Play Game: Holiday.

At that time, it was revealed that Jiyoon suffered intermittent symptoms of the illness so she had been receiving professional treatment from a medical facility to recover from it.

Unfortunately, she had to let go of her role for good and allow Weeekly to promote without her.
